Santiago de Chile, Chile, November 10, 2025 – To support the expansion of its client’s green corridor—a network of LNG service stations connecting Chile and Peru—deugro Chile, in collaboration with deugro Spain, moved an 18.16 x 3.38 x 3.55-meter and 30-metric-ton mobile LNG service station from Spain to Chile.
The client’s green corridor, which consists of a network of LNG service stations for trucks, connects Chile and Peru, between Lima and Puerto Montt, and promotes the energy transition in the transportation and logistics sector through the use of LNG as an alternative to diesel fuel. The corridor is already used by over 300 trucks from various industries—from mining to forestry.
In collaboration and under coordination of deugro Spain, the cargo unit was loaded onto a multi-purpose heavy lift vessel at the Port of Bilbao, Spain. Since the walls of the sensitive cargo unit were fabricated from carbon fiber, the cargo unit required special handling in accordance with specific procedures, as detailed in specially designed technical drawings and method statements. To prevent any damage during transport, the cargo unit was also equipped with designated lifting and stowage points.
After a 7,000-nautical-mile ocean voyage, the vessel arrived at the Port of Valparaíso, Chile, where the over 18-meter-long, 30-metric-ton unit was directly discharged by port crane onto a special extendable low bed trailer, which was arranged for by deugro Chile.
“Due to public holidays in Chile that restricted the transportation of oversized cargo, our operational teams conducted daily follow-ups with the terminal to monitor vessel berthing. This ensured the truck’s arrival at the exact date and time scheduled by the terminal, enabling a direct hook-to-truck discharge and avoiding additional storage costs for the client. Escort coordination, vessel arrival adjustments and port changes were also managed accordingly,” said Carolina Andrea Naranjo, Senior Logistics Coordinator at deugro Chile.
For a safe and timely on-carriage to the project site in Tabolango, Limache Chile, 38 kilometers away from the port, deugro arranged for a road survey to determine the best-suited route for the oversized and heavy lift unit. As the equipment featured key components located on its upper section, it was particularly crucial to verify that there were no height restrictions. Moreover, due to its dimensions of 18.16 meters in length, 3.50 meters in width, and 3.55 meters in height, special permits as well as police escorts were required. Both were also timely arranged for by the local deugro teams.
Throughout the transportation and up to the final delivery, the local deugro project managers and a surveyor ensured that all safety procedures were closely followed. This enabled the LNG service station to be safely delivered on time and according to budget.
