Every Voice, Every Mind Matters

October marks the third year that deugro dedicates the entire month to mental health, using World Mental Health Day as a catalyst for deeper reflection and action. This year’s theme, Every Voice and Every Mind Matters, resonates strongly across our global teams and our commitment.
We’ve launched a new e-learning module exploring the connection between Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) and mental health, and we’re currently analysing the results of our biannual Mental Wellbeing at Work survey. These insights will shape our approach moving forward, ensuring that mental health remains a strategic priority.
Sustainability as a Framework for Mental Wellbeing
Ann-Cathrin van Looy, who leads deugro’s sustainability efforts, sees mental health as deeply intertwined with our sustainability strategy.
“I see sustainability as a strategic framework that supports our people, processes, and principles. In the high-pressure world of logistics, where complexity is the norm, our sustainability approach aims to support teams navigate challenges with greater clarity and resilience.”

She highlights initiatives like our partnership with OpenUp and internal wellbeing programmes as practical tools to help employees manage stress and maintain balance. These efforts are part of a broader cultural shift that integrates health, safety, and wellbeing into daily operations.
“This transformation is ongoing. Implementation into the company culture takes time and we are not everywhere at the same stage. However, the direction is clear, and the momentum is growing.”
Why OpenUp? A Strategic Choice
When asked why deugro chose to partner with OpenUp, Ann-Cathrin explains:
“Our partnership with OpenUp reflects a strategic commitment to mental wellbeing as a pillar of sustainability.”
The decision was based on employee feedback and the need for accessible, multilingual support. OpenUp’s platform fits perfectly with deugro’s international setup and complements our broader wellbeing strategy, which includes training, awareness campaigns, and our Health and Wellbeing Policy.

Wellbeing with Purpose
At deugro, we continue working toward making wellbeing part of the everyday experience of our people, shaping how we collaborate, grow, and support one another across teams, roles, and regions.
As Ann-Cathrin van Looy explains,
“Wellbeing is treated as a strategic enabler of resilience, innovation, and long-term success.”
This commitment is strongly present in our sustainability strategy, ensuring that every individual feels empowered and included through:
- Physical and mental health: From ISO 45001 certification to mental health platforms.
- Dignity and inclusion: DEI training is designed to foster a workplace where every employee feels respected and empowered.
- Growth and fulfilment: Continuous learning and mentorship are embedded in our culture.
Changing the Conversation
Since partnering with OpenUp, the way we talk about mental health has evolved.
“What was once a ‘background topic’ is now part of everyday conversations, from team check-ins to leadership briefings.”
OpenUp’s accessible platform and expert-led sessions have helped normalise mental health support, encouraging openness and reducing stigma.
“Journeys like this take time. What matters most is that we’ve started, with clear intent and growing momentum.”

HR’s Role in Prevention and Empowerment
Christian Schmidt, Head of Global HR, reflects on how 2025 has brought a shift toward prevention and skill-building to help teams manage stress and complexity before it escalates. The focus has been on strengthening interpersonal dynamics, improving communication, and fostering emotional resilience, so challenges are addressed early and constructively.
“We pay attention to interpersonal tensions within teams and respond accordingly. These often address issues such as mistrust, poor communication, and exclusion.”

One key initiative is the Coaching and Mentoring Program led by Marko Stamenkovic and Keith Bailey. It promotes both professional and personal skills, like self-management, resilience, and conflict resolution.
“When teams learn to confidently handle complexity and cultivate their emotional resources, a climate of collaboration emerges that reduces stress and promotes motivation.”
A Working Culture That Listens and Cares
Mental health shapes how we show up for ourselves, for each other, and for the work we do. At deugro, we’re nurturing a culture where people feel seen, heard, and supported. Every voice matters. Every mind matters. And every step we take toward wellbeing is a step toward a stronger, more connected future.
