Jakarta, Indonesia, February 2, 2026 – deugro, in cooperation with One Earth – One Ocean e.V. (OEOO) Germany and Waste4Change (W4C) Indonesia, has launched a coordinated river cleanup and waste management initiative to support the rehabilitation of the river system in Bekasi Regency.
The initiative strengthens local waste management capabilities through structured planning, efficient execution and the use of low-emission technologies designed specifically for river cleaning operations. In partnership with One Earth – One Ocean, a leading German NGO focused on cleaning water bodies worldwide, and Waste4Change in Indonesia, the project combines technical expertise, operational capacity and local knowledge.
As part of this long-term collaboration, deugro is supporting a river cleanup initiative in the Jakarta metropolitan area by sponsoring the removal and recycling of waste from a defined river section. The initiative uses innovative waste collection solutions such as floating barriers and pontoons, while also creating permanent local employment opportunities.
“Caring for our rivers is caring for the communities they sustain, and meaningful progress depends on collaboration. By partnering with One Earth – One Ocean and Waste4Change, we are turning shared responsibility into concrete action—combining strong partnerships, disciplined execution and local expertise. This initiative reflects how long-term collaboration can deliver tangible social value, strengthen local systems and support communities in a responsible and sustainable way,”
said Sari Safianti, deugro Country Manager, Jakarta, Indonesia.
“The CBL River represents many rivers in Southeast Asia that suffer from severe plastic pollution and serve as major transport routes for waste into the oceans. With our project in Bekasi, we are breaking this chain at its source and taking action where help is needed most. The support of deugro sends a strong signal of responsible action and demonstrates how effective collaboration can be in protecting our waterways,” said Dr. Harald Frank, Senior Manager Finance & Business at One Earth – One Ocean.
“Every kilogram of waste collected by Sea Hamster 2.0 represents potential pollution prevented from traveling from rivers to the ocean. We ensure that collected waste is properly managed and recycled to create value for multiple stakeholders, while advancing Waste4Change’s commitment to sustainable waste management and a zero-waste future in Indonesia with local and global impact,” said Mohamad Bijaksana Junerosano, CEO and Founder of Waste4Change.
This initiative forms part of deugro’s broader commitment to social and humanitarian responsibility worldwide. In recent years, deugro has supported international emergency relief through its fundraising partnership with CARE and has contributed to a wide range of community-focused initiatives across its global network—combining global engagement with meaningful, locally driven action.
