At deugro, we are dedicated to fostering a supportive and informed workplace. That’s why we at deugro are proud to support the Pink October initiative for the sixth time in a row. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women globally and the second most-diagnosed cancer overall. In 2023, more than 2.3 million women worldwide received a breast cancer diagnosis, with a new case occurring every 14 seconds. While breast cancer is much rarer in men, about 1 in 833 men will face a breast cancer diagnosis during their lifetime. These statistics may seem overwhelming, but there is hope—early detection and increased awareness save lives.

What is Pink October?

Pink October, also known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, was first launched in 1985 as part of a global effort to promote early detection through regular screenings. The initiative aims to raise public awareness about breast cancer and encourage proactive health measures, such as self-examinations and mammograms. Over the years, it has evolved into a global campaign that emphasizes education, early detection, and support for individuals affected by breast cancer. The pink ribbon, introduced in the early 1990s, has become a lasting symbol of the fight against the disease, representing solidarity and hope for those impacted by breast cancer.

This campaign promotes regular self-examinations, routine mammograms, and access to treatment and support services. It also underscores the critical role that research plays in prevention, treatment and, ultimately, finding a cure.

deugro’s Pink October initiative: Empowering through education and support

At deugro, we are committed to taking proactive steps toward health awareness. Our teams worldwide participate in various activities, such as Wear Pink Day, and organize Awareness Information Stations and Lunch & Learn sessions, where they discuss breast cancer awareness and share resources. This year, our deugro Women’s Network took the initiative and organized virtual health talks together with Prevent Breast Cancer, a UK charity dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, for all deugro employees worldwide.

We are offering two special training sessions in collaboration with Prevent Breast Cancer, a UK-based charity dedicated to preventing the disease before it starts. These sessions are designed to provide essential knowledge on self-examination techniques, risk factors, and the importance of regular screenings—empowering our team to protect themselves and others.

In these health talks, followed by interactive Q&A sessions, participants gain a comprehensive understanding of breast cancer risk factors and learn practical prevention strategies. Together, we explore the importance of early detection, ways to reduce personal risk, and key signs and symptoms to watch for. These sessions present an opportunity to raise awareness, share knowledge, and contribute to the global fight against breast cancer.

Breast cancer isn’t just an individual concern—it affects entire communities. By spreading awareness and taking collective action, we can help to reduce the stigma surrounding the disease, encourage support for those in need, and contribute to a worldwide effort to lower breast cancer rates.

Join us in the fight against breast cancer

This Pink October, let’s come together as a team to take action. Whether it’s informing ourselves, sharing what we’ve learned with loved ones, or simply wearing a pink ribbon, each step brings us closer to a future where breast cancer is less common—and more survivors thrive.

Education, early detection and support save lives. Together, we can make a difference!
